Kung Fu
The study of kung fu has been pursued for approximately 4700 years and
is considered the grandfather of many modern martial arts such as Karate
and Jujitsu/Judo. As a martial arts system Kung Fu can be recognized
for its quick, circular and fluid movements. Unlike many modern
martial arts, kung fu is not recognized for one particular form of fighting. Kung
fu has many facets. As a martial art, students can expect to encounter
the full range of fighting skills and the theory behind them, be they
striking with the entire body, takedowns/wrestling, Chin Na Controlling
techniques or even weapon training.
The style of Kung Fu offered at the
Kodenkan of Tucson is called Triple Path Tong Long Pai (Praying Mantis
Style). The style is a
northern mantis boxing system based upon the Jut Sow (Wrestling Hands)
Tam Tui (Seeking Legs) Northern Praying Mantis style and the internal
styles of Wushu: Chen style, Yang style, Wushu Mantis and Water Boxing
(Liu Ho Ba Fa). The system is renowned as a highly effective fighting
art that combines exceptionally powerful legwork with the techniques
of Northern Mantis Kung Fu and the teachings of internal Wushu.
True
to the meaning of Kung Fu, which translates to “Hard Work”, students
of our Kung Fu will experience martial arts training that will not only
develop their fighting/self defense skills, but will grow them as a person
both physically and mentally.
